A Guide to Pilates Grip Socks
Deel
Getting started with Reformer Pilates? Grip socks are a must. But don’t think this is some kind of PE kit rule where only the ugliest will do. Pilates grip socks have become a bit of a fashion statement lately. So you’ll be able to find a pair that match your style.

What are Pilates grip socks?
Pilates grip socks are an essential on the reformer and they can also be useful in matwork Pilates and even yoga. Their non-slip soles are designed to give you extra stability on the mat, especially when your reformer carriage is moving. It means you can work out with confidence. And moving with confidence means that you’ll perform better too. In your grip socks, you can get into better expressions of the pose, challenging your range of motion, fine tuning your alignment and properly engaging your muscles.

How are Pilates grip socks different from other socks?
Grip socks come in as many styles as other socks with the added benefit of grippy soles. This grip comes from either rubber or silicone dots or patterns which up the friction, meaning you can rely on your socks to keep you stable and take the pressure out of your toes.

Types of Pilates socks
Block colour, patterned, low-rise and pockets for every toe - there’s a grip sock as unique as you on the market today. Here’s the lowdown on a few popular styles.
Ballet grip socks
Ballet grip socks are some of the most lightweight and breathable grip socks you can buy. They’re inspired by ballet shoes, with a form-fitting low-profile fabric that covers all toes, your heel and half the front of your foot. The sock is secured with an elastic strap.

Crew grip socks
Crew socks are one of the most recognised sock styles, covering your entire foot and finishing on the lower half of your shin. While the toes and heel are free to move, you’ll usually find a tighter band around the middle of your foot which gives you added arch support, and a cuff on the top part of the sock to stop it slipping down.

Low rise grip socks
Low rise grip socks cover your whole foot like crew socks and finish just above the ankle. As well as reliable traction and a fashionable fit, some low-rise grip socks also have a middle band for arch support and an elasticated cuff.

Toe socks
Toe socks are the ones that separate each of your toes. While this can feel a little odd to some, others prefer it for the barefoot feeling of being able to move their toes independently. This can suit some exercises more, like yoga, where certain grounding techniques involve lifting and placing each toe individually on the mat.
FAQs
Do they have arch support?
Yes, many grip socks, including our ÔWEAR collections, have arch support built in with an elasticated band around the middle of your foot. This is great for reducing fatigue and supporting you when you need it.
What if I’m between sizes?
If you’re between sizes, go for the smaller size. Pilates grip socks are meant to feel like a second skin and you’ll benefit from the grip if they’re as close fitting to your foot as possible. Extra wiggle room = less grip friction.
How do I choose the best socks?
